The team teachers have nominated students for the Golden Eagle and Gene Drendel Awards which will be presented at the Awards Ceremony.

The qualifications for the Golden Eagle Award

  • Peer leadership
  • Contributions to the school
  • Serving as a role model (Character Counts)
  • Academic responsibility
  • Strong school spirit

In addition, the highlighted students have also been nominated for the Gene Drendel Award.  This is the highest award given to a student at Kennedy, one from each grade level.  These students should exemplify the SIX PILLARS OF CHARACTER  and be the "Best of the Best" from the Golden Eagle nomination.

Yes.  In order for a student to earn the privilege of attending the "Moving On" ceremony at the end of eighth grade, he/she must earn passing grades in half of the subjects in which he/she is enrolled.  This will be monitored up to and including the third trimester mid-term report.  Any student failing half, or more, of their subjects will be placed on academic probation, during which the student and their counselor will design an academic plan for improvement.  Failure to meet the conditions of probation may result in the student's exclusion from the "Moving On" ceremony.

This ceremony takes place during the school day at the end of the school year.  Each family receives just two tickets as space is tight.  Lots of volunteers are required to make this a memorable event.  Information, and requests for volunteers, begins coming home to parents in January/February.

Generally each team creates a TEAM t-shirt with a motto and logo that can be purchased by the students at an optional extra charge.  These shirts can be worn by the students on field trips, pod days and whenever your student chooses to build up TEAM spirit.
The Kennedy Junior High Home and School Association offers spirit wear for sale several times during the year.  A flyer will come home with your student listing the various items that are for sale, descriptions, pricing and delivery information.  Representatives from the Spirit wear committee will visit the school so that students and parents are allowed to see the items offered for sale and to determine the correct sizing.
For the existing 6th and 7th graders, the order form will be distributed from their homeroom teacher, or on the KJHS website.  For incoming 6th graders, the order form will be available in their orientation packet or on the KJHS website.  It is highly recommended that each student purchase a locker shelf.  The lockers are very small and have no shelves.  Purchasing a shelf will help to organize a student's locker area.  Students may not use masking tape or stickers on their lockers.  Magnets should be used to adhere things to the locker itself.
